Wil Lutz responds to Von Miller’s non-apology for name mix-up

Washington Commanders pass rusher Von Miller mistakenly called Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz “Lou Holtz” before their Week 13 showdown, a comment that Lutz said was disrespectful in a since-deleted tweet. On the latest episode of his “Free Range” podcast, Miller explained the misunderstanding — but he didn’t apologize. “Wil Lutz got upset at me for mistaking his name for Lou Holtz,” Miller said. “I don’t even know how many times I’ve said Lou Holtz in my lifetime — it had to be on five or six fingers that I’ve said Lou Holtz — and it just kind of like rolled off of my tongue. “It was definitely not any disrespect or anything like, ‘My best friend’s Brandon McManus, and there’s only room in this town for one kicker and it’s not you, Lou Holtz, I mean, Wil Lutz.’ It wasn’t anything personal. … I just wanted to say, like, I’m not even going to apologize for that. You know what I mean? Like it wasn’t even nothing like that.” Miller continued, “He couldn’t have been serious — and he spelled my name with two Ns, so, ‘How you like that? I’mma get ya back! I’mma get ya back Von!’ It’s not that serious.” This was Lutz’s response on social media: “Respect the hell out of Von(n) and Lou Holtz. No apologies needed. Kind of cool? Two hall of famers 👊🏻. I’m just here to kick.” Respect the hell out of Von(n) and Lou Holtz. No apologies needed. Kind of cool? Two hall of famers 👊🏻.
