Furman’s Braden Dunham scored an unassisted goal in the 75th minute Friday night, snapping a 0-0 deadlock and propelling the 16th-seeded Paladins to a 1-0 NCAA Tourney Elite Eight win at 8th-seeded Portland.The Paladins advance to the College Cup for the first time in program history. Head coach Doug Allison, who’s announced he’s retiring after 31 seasons guiding Furman, earned his 365th career win as well with Friday’s victory.Dunham’s goal came 12 seconds after his teammate Gianluca Rizzo’s shot on goal was denied by Portland goalkeeper Miguel-Angel Hernandez.The Pilots’ best chance to tie the match came early in the 89th minute, when Paladins goalkeeper Ivan Horvat denied a shot by Diego Rosas.Furman extends its unbeaten streak to 14 matches and improves to 16-1-5.The Paladins advance to Friday’s national semi-final match in Cary, NC. The other Elite Eight matches will be played Saturday and include Saint Louis facing 14th-seeded Akron, 7th-seeded Georgetown and 15th-seeded NC State, and Washington and 4th-seeded Maryland.The national championship match is Monday December 15th at 7:30pm in Cary.Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
