Perry Thompson plans to leave Auburn football via transfer portal

A member of the “Freeze Four” has announced his intent to leave the Auburn football program via the transfer portal. Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals reported Friday night that Auburn wide receiver Perry Thompson plans to enter the transfer portal once the window opens in January after spending two seasons on the Plains. Thompson signed with Auburn as part of the 2024 signing class as the No. 8 wide receiver in the nation according to 247Sports and the No. 5 player from Alabama. He was the third-highest rated player to sign with Auburn that cycle, trailing Amaris Williams and Cam Coleman. Thompson, along with Cam Coleman, Malcolm Simmons, and Bryce Cain, were a part of the wide receiver quartet known as the “Freeze Four” that signed with Auburn in 2024. Over the last two seasons, Thompson has become the third most productive member of the group by reeling in 22 catches for 280 yards and one touchdown in two seasons. In 2025, Thompson reeled in 17 catches for 154 yards, with his best game happening against Missouri on Oct. 18 when he caught four passes for 60 yards. The next transfer portal window is set to open on Jan. 2, and will close on Jan. 16. Thompson joins a trio of Auburn defensive player, including freshman defensive lineman Antonio Coleman, to declare his plans to enter the transfer portal.
