NHL GAME PREVIEW – New Jersey Devils vs Calgary Flames – November 1st, 2024

Game Time: 9:00PM EST
Location: Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta

Tonight, the NHL features an exciting matchup between the Calgary Flames and New Jersey Devils. Both teams are looking to solidify their positions in the standings as we move out of October and into November.  The Devils come into this one on a 3 game win streak with their most recent victory being 6-0 over Vancouver on Wednesday. The Flames come into this game on a 4 game losing skid as they look to get back on track.

New Jersey Devils: Keys to Victory

The New Jersey Devils come into this game with a record of 7-6, riding a wave of momentum after their recent performance in Vancouver winning 6-0. Key players like Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes have been instrumental for this team, combining for 5 points in that game. Their offensive depth will be crucial tonight down all 4 lines especially against a formidable Flames defense.

Offensively, the Devils have been great all season ranking 1st in goals for, the holes in the lineup are on the blue line as they rank 7th in goals against this season. The Devils will need to tighten up against the Flames top scorers. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom is expected tonight he has been solid, boasting a 5-3-1 record this season with a 2.67GAA and .903 SV%, but he’ll face a challenge tonight in his first appearance vs his former team.

Calgary Flames: Road to Success

On the other side we have the Calgary Flames. They have a record of 5-4-1 and look eager to bounce back after getting stomped 5-1 vs the Utah Hockey Club. The spotlight will be on defenseman Rasmus Andersson who has been a standout performer lately to start the seson, contributing on a point per game basis (10pts – 10games)

For the Flames, avoiding the Devils special teams play will be critical. They need to stay out of the box tonight vs the Devils who lead the league with 13 powerplay goals. The Flames have been playing their best this season when they are 5on5. Capitalizing on any opportunities against Markstrom early will be vital for success.

Key Matchup: THE GOALIES!

The game changers tonight will be the goaltenders on both sides. Dan Vladar has struggled to start the season sporting a 2-2-1 record, 3.97GAA, .895 SV% but he will look to improve from his 5-0 loss last game to the Golden Knights. On the other side you have Markstrom who like i mentioned earlier will be playing his first game back against his former team so the revenge angle is in play 100%. The goalies performances in this game could very well determine the outcome.

With both teams eager to secure points, expect a high-energy battle with the potential for goals.
