Just a day after Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and his 2025 roster found out their first-round opponent in the College Football Playoff, 2027 four-star edge Kaden McCarty announced his commitment, joining the Aggies’ No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, and is the first pass rusher to commit in the cycle.This isn’t shocking news for those who have kept up with McCarty’s recruitment, as the Houston, Texas native is one of the most productive defenders in the class, and while his last visit to College Station essentially sealed the deal, watching Texas A&M’s elite 2025 defensive line finish the regular season tied for first in sacks (41), led by senior edge Cashius Howell’s 11.5 sacks on the year.Under Mike Elko, Texas A&M’s recruiting success has yet to drop off, and after securing the 9th-ranked 2026 recruiting class, McCarty’s commitment is just another step towards ensuring the No. 1-ranked cycle for the first time since 2022. On the field, McCarty is highly versatile, possessing the size to play off-ball linebacker at the next level, but his 6’2″ frame and long arms project that he’ll play edge at the next level. McCarty has been highly productive during his high school career, including 51 tackles, 12 sacks, and 26 tackles for loss during his 2025 junior season.
