Last week, it was Grayson that had a chance to jump to replace the IMG Academy [Bradenton, FL] Ascenders at No. 1 in The Sporting News High School Football Top 25, but the Rams’ 34-14 loss to the new No. 5/SN No. 5 Carrollton [GA] Trojans ended their season prematurely.Now, it’s Buford’s turn to carry the mantle for the Peach State in the national rankings, and the Wolves enter this game in the same position Grayson was in last week; if they win out, they will be The Sporting News High School Football National Champions.Valdosta, however, has a championship pedigree of its own and claims six national titles with the most recent one coming in 1992. They won’t win it this year, but they can win Georgia’s Class 6A state title and wreck Buford’s season in the process.
