Cameron Jordan has always planned on finishing his career where it started — with the New Orleans Saints. He’s taken a lot of pride in wearing the black and gold fleur-de-lis each week, and if he could spend his entire career with one team, like his father Steve Jordan did, he’d be happy. But it may not be realistic. The Saints are actively rebuilding their roster and evaluating who can be part of the future and who might be at the end of the line. Because they previously restructured Jordan’s contract so many times, he’ll have a whopping $18.76 million salary cap hit left behind if the Saints don’t re-sign him in 2026. That’s a lot of dead money to absorb on top of the $65.8 million they’re paying for players who won’t be on the team next year. It makes the decision to re-up Jordan’s contract or not much murkier.”I don’t know if I’ve ever considered any of that,” Jordan began, speaking with Saints media on Wednesday. He added, “In my mind it’s always playing here versus retiring, but maybe it’s not. As you look back the last couple of years, maybe you do have to look around. I think time will tell where that happens.”Jordan noted that it’s a decision for the higher-ups to make, and if the Saints don’t want him, there’s 31 other teams that want him — or maybe three or four. “It’s real low,” Jordan shrugged. It doesn’t sound like signing with the Atlanta Falcons is in his future. He’s been with the Saints through the highs and the lows, going from competing in playoff games and conference championships to wading through back-to-back years with double-digit losses. He’s strengthening his case for the Pro Football Hall of Fame each week, but a Super Bowl ring would go a long way to sealing the deal. If these next five games are the last ones Jordan plays in a Saints uniform, nobody could fault him for going off to chase a title with the Buffalo Bills (who hired his old coach Ryan Nielsen back in February) or some other real contender. It’s just a shame that Mickey Loomis has steered the Saints to a point where even the most optimistic and team-forward guys have to start thinking about what’s best for themselves. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: Cameron Jordan knows his days with the Saints may be numbered
