College Report: Bailey Miller records six kills; Kaiden Roden records six tackles

Former Boles Lady Hornet Bailey Miller recorded six kills, one assist and nine digs as Arizona State opened the NCAA volleyball tournament with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-12 victory over Coppin State.The 27-3 Sun Devils advanced to the second round to play Utah State.Miller, a 6-3 senior, also racked up 13 kills, one assist, two aces, two blocks and four digs during Arizona State’s 25-15, 25-15, 18-25, 25-16 win over West Virginia. Miller played two seasons at West Virginia before transferring to Arizona State.Miller ranks second on the team in kills for the season with 365, to go with 34 assists, 36 aces, 50 blocks and 276 digs.—Kaiden Roden, a 6-0, 225-pound junior linebacker from Quinlan Ford, recorded six tackles during Hardin-Simmons’ 34-24 loss to Trinity in the first round of the NCAA Division III football playoffs.Roden led the 9-2 Cowboys for the season with 79 tackles, including 31 solos, to go with one interception, one pass break-up and one forced fumble—Colt Cooper, a 6-3, 250-pound senior from Quinlan Ford, recorded a tackle during Abilene Christian’s 38-20 win over Lamar in the opening round of the FCS football playoffs. The 9-4 Wildcats advanced to the second round to face 10-2 Stephen F. Austin on Saturday in Nacogdoches.Cooper has recorded nine tackles for the season and recovered two fumbles.He was a state champion in powerlifting, the shot put and discus in high school for Ford.—Royse City-ex Nevaeh Zavala racked up 20 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots during High Point’s 101-57 basketball victory over Virginia-Wise.Zavala, a 6-0 senior, also recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and a steal during the 9-1 Panthers’ 64-44 win over South Carolina State.Zavala’s averaging 8.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. She’s shooting .516 from the field and .786 from the line.The Panthers aren’t scheduled go play again until Dec. 14 against North Carolina Central.—Connie Hughes, a 5-6 sophomore guard from Bland, recorded four points, three rebounds and an assist during Southeastern Oklahoma’s 91-58 basketball loss to Henderson State.The 3-4 Savage Storm are to play again on Saturday at Ouchita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Ark.Hughes is averaging 3.0 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. She’s also recorded seven assists, four steals and two blocked shots. She’s shooting .412 from the field.
