LATTA — Latta girls coach Clay Plunk knew his team would have its hands full with Class 2A powerhouse Dale coming to town Tuesday night.However, he couldn’t have expected the Lady Pirates to shoot lights out.Dale hit nine 3-pointers and shot 41% from long range in a 62-48 win over Latta. The Lady Pirates stayed unbeaten at 4-0, while Latta slipped to 2-2. The Lady Panthers played at Byng Friday night and travel to Roff Tuesday.“Dale shot it extremely well and is hard to beat when they shoot it like that,” Plunk told The Ada News. “We have to tighten a few things on both ends of the floor, but we did a great job not giving possessions away. We are still finding our identity, but I believe in these girls and this team and know we will figure it out.”Dale 62, Latta 48Dale led just 13-8 after the first quarter, but Latta junior Preshaya Olipahnt kept the Lady Panthers within striking distance by sinking three 3-pointers in the second period.The Lady Pirates closed out the second quarter with a mini-flurry and led 31-21 at halftime.Latta kept pace with Dale over the final two quarters but couldn’t close the gap. Dale outscored Latta 18-14 in the third period before both teams scored 13 points in the fourth.“We got off to a little bit of a slow start. But Preshaya gave us a lift early off the bench,” Plunk said.Latta’s guard tandem of Jayse Smith and Kelbey Parnacher led the Lady Panthers, combining for 29 points with 17 and 12, respectively. Parnacher knocked down two 3-pointers, and Smith added one from beyond the arc.“Jayse and Kelbey did a great job staying aggressive and getting to the free-throw line,” Plunk said.Paislee Anderson also connected on a 3-pointer for the hosts.Skylar Anderson paced Dale with a game-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Kynlee Bullard followed with 14 points and two shots from beyond the arc, while Peyton Bays chipped in 10 points and also hit a pair of 3s.Dale made 23 of 26 free throws, while Latta converted 15 of 22 attempts.
