Former New England Patriots captain David Andrews does not want Patriots quarterback Drake Maye to win the MVP award, but it’s not for the reason you might expect.Maye is currently the projected favorite to win the prestigious individual award following his impressive performance against the New York Giants on Monday night. Couple that with the Patriots sporting an 11-2 record, and the second-year quarterback could be well on his way to earning the greatest individual accolade of his NFL career.Andrews believes Maye is currently the MVP in the NFL, but he also remembers losing the Super Bowl when Tom Brady won the award in the 2017 season. He would much rather see Maye get snubbed for the award and use that disappointment as motivation to win the Super Bowl. “Is he the MVP? Yes. Do I want him to win it? No,” Andrews said on CLNS’ Patriots Daily Podcast. “I’ve been a part of one MVP season. It was the one season we didn’t win a Super Bowl. It’s like Patrick Mahomes, when he did it in [2022], it was the first time in like 20 years. “…Imagine this team, they do the unthinkable. I don’t think it’s that unthinkable, but they go to the Super Bowl. They’re sitting in a hotel room, Friday night, Thursday night. They wake up, having breakfast that morning. Can you imagine if this kid doesn’t win the MVP? I don’t know if it’s going to be brought up, but I think they’re going to be pissed off, and I like them pissed off.” Patriots fans obviously hope that Maye can win the MVP and lead the team to the promised land. Andrews makes a good point about the motivation factor, but it would also be great to see the second-year quarterback accomplish both feats in the same season.
