Newcastle lucky to escape ‘big, big scare’ against Burnley

[Getty Images]Former Newcastle United defender John Anderson says Eddie Howe’s side must work on their “game management” after 10-man Burnley “almost stole a point at the death” on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies did manage to see the game out though, and moved up to 11th in the Premier League table ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby next weekend.”It ended up not being as comfortable as it should’ve been,” Anderson told BBC Radio Newcastle. “They cruised to 2-0 and Burnley never looked capable of getting back in it, but then they went and gave away a silly penalty.”Then, right at the death, Burnley had an absolutely massive chance to level things. It’s about game management again. Burnley almost stole a point at the death, but luckily they didn’t.”Look, it was a game Newcastle were expected to win and they won it. It sets them up nicely for Wednesday night [against Bayer Leverkusen] and obviously for the derby next weekend.”It was important they won and they did, although they got a big, big scare right at the end.”Listen to the full post-match chat on BBC Sounds
