Green Bay Packers slot cornerback Javon Bullard, who is enjoying a terrific second season, was not participating during the portion of Thursday’s practice available to the media, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.While he has rotated some at safety, Bullard leads the Packers in snaps from the slot with 427 this season. Through 13 games, Bullard leads all slot cornerbacks in yards allowed per snap at 0.57, per PFF. He’s allowed only 162 receiving yards on 36 targets against his coverage in the slot this season. While the updated injury report on Thursday will provide more information, it’s currently unclear if Bullard is dealing with the lingering effects of an ankle injury — he was listed as limited on Wednesday with an ankle — or a new injury suffered in practice. Backup options for the Packers include Nate Hobbs, who played some of his best football with the Las Vegas Raiders in the slot. Hobbs has missed four straight games with a knee injury but could be ready to make his return on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Keisean Nixon, a year-long starter on the perimeter, also has experience in the slot. The Bears use a variety of players in the slot in the passing game, including Rome Odunze, D.J. Moore and Olamide Zaccheaus. First-round pick Colston Loveland and second-round pick Luther Burden are also getting more opportunities to run routes from the slot. For the Packers, this is not the game to be down your top option in the slot. Others not practicing for the Packers on Thursday include defensive end Lukas Van Ness (foot) and receiver Savion Williams (foot). Defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt (ankle) is expected to be placed on injured reserve. The Packers will issue an updated injury report on Thursday and a final injury report with status designations on Friday. This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Packers slot CB Javon Bullard DNP at practice on Thursday
