Pottsville senior diver Adam Klinger signed his national letter of intent to Seton Hall University Friday afternoon at the Ned Hampford Natatorium.Just last season Klinger became Pottsville’s first-ever state medalist and the Schuylkill League’s first-ever diver to place in the top three at the PIAA State Championship a year ago.“I’m looking forward to competing at a well known school, a strong athletic school and represent my hometown while I’m there and I’m excited to be a Pirate,” said Klinger.Pottsville’s Adam Klinger signs to dive collegiately at Seton Hall University. QUINN BURKITT/SPORTS REPORTERKlinger also held a Division I offer from Loyola University of Maryland as well as a Division II offer from Clarion University and Division III Dennison University in Granville, OhioThe Pottsville native now joins a Seton Hall swimming and diving program led by head coach Derek Sapp that last won back-to-back Big East Championships in 2017 and 2018.“The thing that stuck out to me most about Seton Hall was how they take care of their athletes,” said Klinger. “It’s a completely new era of my life and I’m out of state and it’ll be completely lifechanging for the next four years.”Once Seton Hall’s coaches saw Klinger’s diving highlights they were up front about wanting him on the team and the scholarship checked all the boxes according to Klinger.One of Klinger’s biggest inspirations has been longtime Crimson Tide head coach Ned Hampford who led the way during Klinger’s freshman year when he placed 16th at states on the diving board.“This has taken me paths I never thought I’d take before and I’ve developed as a person, learned how to set goals for myself, how to work for things and I was able to develop a great work ethic and Ned (Hampford) was the start of all of that,” said Klinger.Klinger now joins a Seton Hall diving program which competes in the Big East Conference and is currently 3-1 this season.
