One of Michigan football’s secret weapons to its offensive line is on the move.Juan Castillo, an offensive analyst who’s specialty is te offensive line room, is finalizing a deal to join Syracuse’s staff as its full time offensive line coach, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.Castillo also worked in Ann Arbor as an analyst in 2019 and was added during the bowl prep last year. He was lauded by players and staff alike as a veteran with a ton of experience who helped explain details of the position in unique ways.”I feel like Juan never leaves the building. He’s been the secret weapon for the O-line this spring,” coach Sherrone Moore told “The Michigan Insider” earlier this year. “Then going into the summer, he’s working with those guys nonstop because they pull him out of his office. They want to work with him. They want to do drills. They want to do this.”He’s been a great help for [OL coach Grant Newsome], a guy that’s really going to be a superstar in the ranks. … But to have Juan, a guy that’s done it in the NFL, that’s done it in college, has been a huge benefit for us.” Castillo spent nearly two decades with the Philadelphia Eagles (1995-2012) which included more than a dozen years as the offensive line coach in the middle. He then had a four-year stint in Baltimore (2013-16) with a year as run game coordinator and three as offensive line coach with other multi-year stops with the Chicago Bears (2020-21) as offensive line coach and Washington Commanders (2022-23) as tight ends coach and run game coordinator. This is the second staffing change for the Wolverines this offseason. Moore also let go special teams coordinator JB Brown earlier in the week.Tony Garcia is the Wolverines beat writer for the Detroit Free Press.
